I don't get why people who are many generations removed from colonialism should have to pay reparations for crimes committed by their great-grandparents or even further removed - this kind of demands from decolonial folks are only going to accentuate the rift between them and the general public, and encourage the growth of the far right by playing into their "us vs them" bullshit "culture war" or whatever they call it, we should look at the colonial debate from a different, less guilt-ridden, point of view

I believe that it is the duty of citizens of formerly colonized countries to give back to these countries, for they are still profiting to this day off the wealth accumulated from pillaging them (capital accumulates and still grows over time after all) + they are still profiting to this day from new forms of imperialism and the many privileges that come with being on top of the world's pecking order

Moreover, colonial reparations would help in alleviating some of the very things that people who are against these reparations complain about (first and foremost mass immigration), so maybe they should chill their knee jerk reactions and take some time to actually think about it - obv. this situation is different in the USA but you catch my drift I'm sure
