Tankies are a fascinating group of internet users who support a form of communism similar to that of the former USSR and other past communist states. The term "tankie" comes from their defense of authoritarian regimes that used tanks to crush popular uprisings.

While their critique of Western imperialism isn’t entirely unfounded (it's actually very founded), they often take it to such an extreme that they end up justifying oppressive regimes, even sometimes ones arguably worse than those they oppose.
